Women's Agenda for Development
OxYGen Foundation within the framework of “EQUAL: Promoting Women’s Political Participation at National Level in Armenia” Project developed “Women’s Agenda for development” document.
The key objective of the Women’s Agenda was to invite the attention of the parties and party alliances running in the snap parliamentary elections on gender equality issues with the expectation that they, if elected, will not only voice these issues in the National Assembly but will also propose solutions to them.
During the extended meeting the document was presented to all the political forces of the National Assembly voicing the problems that women face in Armenia: problems such as women at decision making, women in labour market, women with disabilities, reproductive health issues, rural women, etc.
Preparatory Meeting of NA-CSO cooperation platform
“Women Agenda” stepped into another stage of development after the meeting of the representatives of civil society organisations (CSO’s) and the newly elected members of the National Assembly (NA) in December 2018. Aiming to set a foundation for cooperation between the members of the National Assembly and the representatives of the civil society organisations through launching an effective dialogue on equal rights and equal opportunities for women and men and taking joint steps to address the issues included in the document “Women’s Agenda for Development”.
During the meeting it was decided:
- To form a cooperation platform between the National Assembly and CSOs
- To organize, public hearings at the National Assembly on the issues included in the Women’s Agenda on March 8, 2019.
National Assembly- CSO Platform Launch
On March 8, 2019, at the Golden Hall of the National Assembly, an MoU was signed between the RA National Assembly of the 7th convocation and representatives of civil society organizations thus establishing a bilateral open cooperation platform to ensure actual equality of women’s and men’s rights and opportunities.
Participating in the discussion were MPs of the three political forces represented in the National Assembly, CSO representatives, diplomats accredited in the Republic of Armenia, experts, and mass media representatives.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was preceded by an extensive discussion about women political participation, NA and CSOs cooperation mechanisms to ensure equal rights and equal opportunities for women and men.
Aim
- To ensure civil society participation in legislative initiatives aimed at empowerment of women in the political, economic and social areas, as well as the promotion of equal rights and equal opportunities for women and men.
- To jointly implement public events aimed at promoting equal participation of women and men in the county development processes.
- To hold consultations on other issues included in the “Women Agenda for Development” document that is of their interest, as well as to discuss the progress of jointly implemented activities and plan future joint activities.
