Ahead of the extraordinary elections. women’s participation

Snap parliamentary elections will be held on June 20 as a result of Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation, and consequently the dissolution of the National Assembly. On May 10, RA President Armen Sargsyan signed the decree calling the elections.

Before and after that, the political forces that expressed their intention to participate in the elections actively engaged in the preparatory and PR activities, not even waiting for the campaign period defined by law.

In a country full of war-torn, homeless compatriots, wounded people, families with lost sons, fathers, brothers, relatives in captivity and obscurity, all the problems have been pushed to the background, money is spent on opening new party offices, printed materials,  renting billboards, and other pre-election preparations.

Over two dozen blocs and parties have announced their intention to run in the elections so far. According to the information available at the moment, the pre-election list of any of the political forces that submitted such an application is not headed by a woman, only the information about the first female candidates on the list is circulated in the press. According to the publications, a serious internal struggle is going on for that “authoritative” place. As for the principles of formation of electoral lists of political forces, judging by the information in the press, they are, as always, based solely on the preferences of the first person of the party.

According to the schedule set by the CEC, the formation of polling stations must be completed by May 26. The CEC must submit the list of electronic voters by May 27. The parties, party blocs will submit the documents for registration to the CEC no later than 25 days before the voting day, that is, until May 26 at 18:00. The registration of the electoral lists will take place on May 26-31.

Until then, one can get an idea of the composition of the electoral lists of the parties only on the basis of unofficial information in the press.

Despite active preparations and work, the political forces remain skeptical that elections will take place. Those talks became more active after the cases of crossing the border by the Azerbaijani armed forces in Syunik and Gegharkunik and deepening 2-3.5 km. Some politicians think that martial law will be declared, in which case no election can be held.

If elections are held anyway, according to the schedule set by the CEC, the pre-election campaign will start on June 6 and will continue until June 18 at 24:00. Parties and blocs can submit applications for self-withdrawal until June 10. The printing of ballots will start on June 10 and will last for 7 days. Electronic voting will start 9 days before the elections, i.e. on June 11 at 08:00, and will end on June 13 at 20:00.

Voting starts on June 20 at 08:00, information on the process is published at 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 21:00.

Voting ends at 20:00. The protocol on the results of the electronic voting will be published after 20:00 on June 20. The compilation of the protocol on the voting results in the polling stations is completed, it is published on June 21 at 08:00.
